Can you spare a quarter?

Before I forget must share one of those experiences you only get in New York. You know every bigger city has its share of beggars. Most of us are used to seeing them sitting on a street corner. Some of them walk around with a cup and ask everybody they meet to spare a quarter. They can wait at a bust stop or walk through a subway train or walk up to the cars in an intersection, or be more creative than that. Yesterday I saw something new. The beggar himself was just sitting on the sidewalk with a cup in his hand saying nothing. But there was a woman next to him, dressed in a pretty classy dress, who walked up to every passing pedestrian asking if anybody could break down a five dollar bill so that she could give money to the beggar.
